Hoyts - Rumble Although the film for this spot is all about the iphone style idea, we still had to make the film feel like we were watching and hearing a one hundred million dollar hollywood film. Using helmets and metal offcuts in the booth, we focused on the full experience of the pilot re-entering the earth’s atmosphere. Creating tension and excitement through unsettling sounds and volume.

There were plenty of unique audio challenges for our team to focus on. From in studio ADR matched with on set recording on a beach, to howling night winds to be calmed for a busy yet yearning romance, and lastly weaving in the sound of a nearly silent electric car. Together Is For Christmas For Telstra Christmas, we crafted lively soundscapes following Little Donkey’s journey as a singing superstar. Foley moments included team members cheering, dancing, and creating sounds with Christmas lights and donkey footsteps. We mixed the music in a way that reflected each scene, such as coming from Donkey’s belly, an outdoor show, and a Mariachi band. Capturing the sound of the distant Drylandia. From elongated horses with jet feet, through to the Moog inspired abstract landscape. We took inspiration from Star Trek to create transporters, all married together with the beautiful voice of Nicholas Hope, his accent half Danish half Australian feels other worldly. All combining to hint at Drylandia’s mysterious energy currents.

NRMA Runaway - Rumble To create the real sound of our tires journey we wanted to be able to work with as many sounds with as much detail as possible. So this work started with a pair of sound designers chasing a tire across grass covered hills, rain covered roads, gravelly paths and dirt paths. But our favourite part was creating the tire bursting moment, thrashing torn rubber in the booth on top grinding metal. Always searching for ways to work with truly unique sounds.

Pirtek Crop Sprayer - Rumble This piece is a classic case of deception. We needed to create fear, apprehension and then subvert it. It all started with the sound of the main character: the crop sprayer. We drew on field recordings of the tractor and layered in extremely low bass rumbles, detuned engines, and a vocal sample that was heavily distorted and overdriven to create the pulsing thud of the machine. From authentic sounds for the RM boots all the way to the booming energy of a galloping horse or roaring thunder, the dynamics in this piece really bring it home. Layered with a subtle track and topped with the “tale spinning” narrator. What more could you ask for?
